The Model WSM-02 has independent circuitry designed to continuously monitor the connections to ESD earth of two Wrist strap sections & Work surface. WRIST STRAP Two-wrist strap sections continuously monitor the wrist strap to detect loss of continuity between operators and monitor. Conditions such as broken coils cords and improper contact with the skin are detected instantly to alert the operator before serious and expensive ESD damage can occur. As there is no resistance return path from the wrist strap, it uses the ''''''''capacitive AC pulse principle'''''''' to check if the operators are adequately connected to the instrument. The Surface Resistivity Meter measures both surface resistance and resistance to ground. This is meant for use in evaluating a wide variety of ESD protective materials including table mats, floor mats, and hard ESD laminates. It measures and displays Surface Resistivity as well as surface to ground and point-to-point resistances. These measurements can be done in the range of 10E12 ohms by using two 2.5-kilo (5lb) heavy electrodes or through internal probes. To check whether surface Resistivity is in accordance with EOS/ESD Association standards S-4.1.

GENERAL DESCRIPTIONWrist Strap & ESD foot wears are the first line of defence against electrostatic charges build up on the human body. They are designed to carry away this charge as soon as it is generated. At the same time wrist strap/foot wear must remain electrically safe for the user. Thus, it is important to test every wrist strap / footwear regularly.

In order to protect the sensitive electronic components the maximum wrist strap resistance should not more than 10 Meg ohms and footwears resistance should not more than 100 Meg ohms. On the other end, the resistance should not be less than 0.75 M ohms as protection to the wearer from dangerous level of the voltage and current flow.

The wrist strap and the footwear tester checks these parameters under actual operating conditions with the strap on the wrist or foot wear to the foot. It clearly indicates weather or not the resistance ofthe wrist strap/foot wear system including the wearer is at least 0.75 Meg ohms and not more than 10/100 Meg ohms respectively.
